One of many important things is to present the text AND images in the best possible way for search engines to "like" them and rank your page well. Texts should have a natural flow, headings with the right levels, and text should be structured with bullets and lists. It's also important that the images have so called meta data so that Google can understand what an image is showing. This is VERY often forgotten and you will have a competitive edge when we have done that for you website.
Speed is another factor to consider when it comes to ranking well for your site. We get really quick response times for our hosted web sites because we run our own web servers for best possible speed.
When it comes to Off-site SEO here are a few things to consider:
- Get links from your Clients and Business partners
- Register in legitimate directories and local or regional web listings
- Blog on other blog sites that earns you links back to your site
- Write articles in online trade magazines that links back to you
- Create GOOD content that other want to link to
There are so many more thing that we can help you with so get in contact with us so we can setup a strategy for your site to rank well.
For the serious
We use a lot of different tools to make sure your pages rank as well as possible. Here are some of the tools we use and a short explanation of how we use them.
Yoast's WordPress SEO plugin
We use Yoast's SEO plugin to setup the meta data that is needed for your pages to rank well on SERPs. We will check Readability, closely monitor your analytics, and behaviors of your visitors, and tailor your site accordingly. This is a longer process and concentrates on content. Get found properly and fast.
We also use the Genesis framework and child themes from StudioPress and childthemes from Imagely and others. Genesis is a very SEO friendly framework.
To make sure that everything is setup correctly we check the results that Google would see with a fantastic tool called Screaming Frog. It reads the home page just like a search engine would do, and gives us a lot of statistics and data about what is actually presented to the search engines. To avoid confusing Google it's for instance important to only have one Heading level 1 on a page. You have no idea how common it is to find either NO H1s (headings) or loads of them on sites we audit.
Of course, we also generate XML-sitemaps (using Yoast's plugin above) so all search engines can find ALL your pages, images, and other resources (such as PDF files). We normally register them with Google, Bing, and Yandex. Other search engines such as Yahoo, Ask, and Duckduckgo will then pick up your sites.
Broken Link Checker
Helps with finding broken links on your pages. Can be a little resource heavy so setup is crucial for best performance. Broken links don't hurt your SEO, but working links sure help.
WPMUDEV's Domain Mapping
We use their plugin for mapping all our domains. It's not strictly SEO but a proper domain mapping structure is important to be indexed and found correctly. It's an advanced plugin so once again the right setup is very important.
Justified Image Grid
This is a brilliant plugin to display beautiful galleries and lightboxes. Image SEO is very important and this plugin shows off you ALT tags, and Captions in the right way it it is setup correctly. We will write a post about this plugin later.
For our multilingual sites we use WPML. It's made by the same company as Toolset so they integrate well with each other. If you have a web site with more than one language this set of plugins help with the SEO work.
Media Library Assistant
"Enhances the Media Library". The standard Media Library is sorely lacking in features and usefulness. This very advanced plugin is a necessity for anyone having more than 50 images on their site. It's also a fantastic tool to use to automate importing images previously exported from Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop. All meta data and keywords from your images can be setup to automatically populate your Alt tags, Captions, Tags, etc. There will be a couple of posts about this plugin at a later date.
WP Super Cache
"Very fast caching plugin for WordPress." Speed is a ranking factor and caching helps with that.
